Using GI to Manage Stormwater Runoff and Reduce Erosion in a Coastal Environment

The project will improve a 13-acre area to manage runoff that causes erosion due to sand buildup within the existing collection system. The project will remove existing underground network, to be replaced with bioretention basins that will infiltrate stormwater runoff. The project will protect existing infrastructure, improve trail access, include new restroom, and new parking lot for beach access. Hydrologic/Hydraulic modeling was conducted to determine performance of the proposed improvements for low, moderate, and intense storm events. The results show a significant reduction in stormwater from the collection system that will be managed by the bioretention basins.
