The author has worked on updating and calibrating various hydraulic and hydrologic models across different modeling platforms for multiple projects and clients. Some of these models were based on DHI MIKE URBAN and/or MIKE+. A tool was previously developed to calibrate the Model A time-area runoff hydrology using SWMM’s RTK unit hydrograph method, as presented in Using PCSWMM's SRTC Tool to Calibrate the Time-Area Runoff Hydrology in MIKE URBAN, ICWMM Conference, 2019, Toronto.
This presentation further explores the comparison between MIKE URBAN/MIKE+ Model B Kinematic Wave surface runoff method and SWMM’s subcatchment runoff using the Horton infiltration method.
Although the terminology of the two methods suggests they are fundamentally different, they actually employ equivalent governing computational equations for initial losses, surface routing, and infiltration.
