Bert van Duin has close to 40 years of experience in the analysis, planning, design and management of urban drainage, stormwater management and watershed management projects in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Ontario. As Drainage Technical Lead at the City of Calgary City & Regional Planning – Utilities Infrastructure Planning he is a resource to all of the Water Utility in stormwater management, specifically related to the practical implementation of sustainable drainage practices. He is responsible for the evolution of Calgary’s stormwater management practice including updates to the City of Calgary Stormwater Management & Design Manual and the creation of the City of Calgary LID Modules. His responsibilities also include coaching and mentoring of staff, overseeing training related to stormwater management. He also guides the Water Utility’s efforts in stormwater research, overseeing the Drainage Knowledge Program. He was a core member of the team responsible for the update of the City of Calgary’s Stormwater Management Strategy and the creation of the associated Implementation Plan which will guide Calgary’s stormwater management activities in the next decade.
